Everyone who is off to the RAH on Sunday to see '1000 voices' have a great time!! I will be there in spirit. Gonna have myself a 'PQ day'. A day of the man himself on DVD, etc. Not the same as in the flesh you lucky people but I'll make do

Couldn't agree more - Oh I hope not, Much as I like Micheal too he's not my Sweeny Philip is so right. Mush as I love Bryn's voice It still didn't quite make it for me in the SB concert version.
I now there were rumours around last year about Sweeny being revived again in full, but this was with Convert Garden and Sweeny was going to be played by another Opera singer whose name just did not register with me. PQ's name did come up for playing the Judge in that production but all has gone quiet - but nowing the Opera world, this happens as plans can be 3 years ahead or more.
I am booked in for the evening at RAH, so I am thinking I will come in early and get a cheaper afternoon ticket and see the concert twice.
Does any -one know if PQ is planning to stay on for the Sydney Show? I ask as I could be out there in the New Year?

Truly amazing 1000 Voices concert today - definitely the best since 2003!
PQ performed the last part of The Ballad Of Sweeney Todd, Anthem from Chess, A Good Thing Going, Not A Day Goes By and . . . . . . . . . . STARS!
We'll post the full song list after the evening show, which is just about to start!
TRULY AMAZING!

Sounds fantastic, wish I could have gone! Though I would probably have fainted if I saw/heard PQ singing "Stars" live at the RAH. From nostalgia as much as anything - that was when I first discovered him, I bet it was for many of us, watching the Les Mis anniversary video, especially that song. Kerry Ellis has a great voice too, I bet she was good!
re: The Proms this year, isn't it a general Sondheim prom rather than specifically Sweeney Todd? I should imagine Bryn will do the Sweeney bits as he's played it successfully a few times now. I do hope PQ gets the chance to play the role at some point - though I can see why they want a more widely known name for a commercial West End production (not to discredit Michael Ball at all as I do like him a lot, but there are other people, like PQ, who are more suited to this role IMO).

Ooooo yesterday was fantastic! I can't believe I've heard STARS live! and I was only one seat away from the stage! I nearly needed resuscitating. It was worth every minute of my 8hour round trip to the Albert Hall.

This is a message to all the people who didn't manage to have a word with Philip after the evening show yesterday:
PQ apologizes to all his "most devoted and long standings" for jumping into the car so suddenly yesterday evening, but he really had to rush to the post-show reception. Besides, he felt rather exhausted after such a hectic and emotional day. "It wasn't meant to be rude at all".
Many thanks, The PQG Team

Help Can anyone confirm that I heard Philip say before he sang Stars last night that he was going to Australia for a few years?? Definitely think I heard the word years so would be great if some-one could confirm I was not hearing things!! Know he is going to do Mary Poppins over there but will this be for years??? Sydney show is due to open in July 2011 I read somewhere so I suppose it could be the case??? So blown away hearing Philip sing Stars my mind could be palying tricks I suppose but I fear not and he is after all an Australian so may be going home!!!!

It would be a pity if that is the case but c'est la vie. We all have our lives to lead but we have to do what is best for us.
I couldn't go on Sunday but as for rushing away from the RAH at the end of the evening these things happen. Shouldn't need to apologize:D And I doubt if he was rude at all:)

Did not see Philip rush away at the end of the show Dark Magician so not referring to the PGQ Team post! I do agree c'est la vie thought but just wanted to check my hearing was OK as no-one else seemed to mention the comment before Stars most probably because not significant??!!!!

He did say he was going back to Australia for a couple of years... ...I was hoping I had misheard too!
Also from where I was sitting (which was a million miles away!) it really looked like he had dyed his hair blonde... were my eyes (and camera) playing tricks on me?

HI folks! I was lucky enough to be in Block O right near the stage yesterday afternoon and yes he's definitely dyed his hair blonde! Suits him tho!!! He said he was going back to Oz in a couple of days to play Mr Banks in Mary Poppins but I don't think he said how long for - but he no doubt said different things in the evening. That's the second 1000 Voices I've done when he's been on and sung Stars - it's just stunning! and Anthem... eeeks! and the Sondheim - OMG! what an afternoon it was! (following a Saturday when I saw his follow-up in La Cage, Simon Burke, in a play - both Aussies with incredible talent!)

Many thanks for your comments about PQ's performance at the NOTV concerts last Sunday, please keep them coming!
As for your speculations about PQ's more or less prolonged absence from London, please bear in mind that at the moment the length of the Melbourne run of Mary Poppins has not been set yet and there's no official plan for the production to move to Sydney in 2011. So please don't jump to hasty conclusions and do wait patiently for further official updates, which will come up on the PQG pages as soon as they become public. Thank you. The PQG Team

HI I was at both concerts and I did not hear him metion years just he was going back to Oz to Play Mr Banks in a few days.
I thought he had just ley his haior go natural, assuming he has been wearing a wig for the film. it looked more like salt and peper to me rather than blonde. remember the lights would have made it look lioghter.
I agree he had a hard day on Sunday they were at the RAH at 8.30 for reh and then 2 shows. he looked tired at the end but did a terrific job in the show. Stars was super, first time for me as well, and he did not let us down.
