I went to Maria's first preview last night, and what a wonderful show! If you are thinking of going, please please do, it's fantastic.
And to top it off, a certain still-moustached man was there in support  , yep, our PQ!
Maria was pointing out certain audience members throughout the first act, Jason Carr, Jeremy Sams, Sonia Friedman etc, but she didn't mention Philip at all. So I thought, fair enough perhaps he wanted to stay anonymous. She did sing in his direction when she sang her Sunday in the Park with George medley though.
And then in the second half, oooh, it was sooo funny! Maria's first song was The Worst Pies in London from Sweeney Todd, and she came on in costume. There was a sign on the door (that door that we all know as Zaza's dressing room  ) that said 'Ms Friedman's Pie Shop' and she had a little table with pies and flour on it. She went into the audience and grabbed Philip by the hand and pulled him protesting onto the stage. Even though they were both laughing he really really looked like he didn't want to be there!
As she sang her song she made him take a bite of a pie which must have been disgusting because when she gave him the option to spit it out again into a serviette he obliged.
She spent the rest of the song dusting bits of flour off his face and both of them were laughing so hard she could barely get her words out.
In the end Philip was trying to hide his laughter by nestling his face in her bosoms and she had to tell him off for trying to upstage her as usual.
In a show that would have been fantastic on it's own, it was an absolute experience last night. And I got to see Philip on the stage at the MCF one last time, yay!

Ohhh, thank you so much Dee for posting this!! Need I specify that I'm utterly green? If I think that I was initially planning to extend my London stay after Lauren's concerts to be able to catch Maria's opening, but then had to give up because I was needed at work. I HATE my job!!! 
Now that the recent events at the MCF have proved that PQ has a real talent for being a "Special Guest", wouldn't it be even better if he decided to put together a fully-fledged show WITH one (or several!) of our favourite leading ladies - ie Lauren, Maria, Joanna Riding, Lara Pulver, Elena Roger, Sally Ann Triplett, Louise Gold... I am allowed to daydream, right?
