Tsunami Symphony at the Barbican 9/5/08
« Thread Started on Dec 17, 2007, 8:11pm »

Is anyone thinking of going?

I know I know, it's aaaaages away, but I was thinking of getting my ticket before I find them all sold out because I procrastinated. None of my friends fancy going, and I don't mind going on my own at all, but it would be great to know if anyone else was thinking of being there?

Dee ;D

Hi Dee!

I am not only "thinking" of going, I'm definitely going ;D

Right, I think I'm going to have to get a ticket then. I haven't been able to convince anyone to come with me (oh, my friends are just SO uncultured!) so I'll be there on my own.

I don't really mind, who needs conversation when Philip is in the room! :-)

Oooh I so agree! I actually bought a couple of tickets as soon as I saw them available - I thought I'll worry about who I can get to go with me later....!

I bought mine today, I was getting worried that by the time I got around to it they would be all sold out.

Ooh, I'm excited now!

Thrilling update from the BBC Symphony Orchestra HQ, which will make very very happy many non-UK friends!
The full Barbican concert is going to be recorded live and broadcast on BBC Radio 3 on Tuesday 13 May 2008.

Check the relevant PQG page for more details about how to tune in on the announced date.

Huge thanks to Sarah for the precious feedback!

From the latest BBC Symphony Orchestra Newsletter :)

The BBC Symphony Orchestra's Barbican season comes to a rousing conclusion with two concerts in May. On Friday 9 May Sir Andrew Davis makes a welcome return to conduct the BBC SO in the world premiere performance of Dominic Muldowney's Tsunami, with soloist Philip Quast. Sir Andrew Davis also conducts Vaughan Williams’s tensely menacing Sixth Symphony, which proved a sensational success, chalking up 100 performances within two years of its premiere. The BBC Symphony Chorus join the stage for Charles Ives's General William Booth Enters into Heaven and Holst's choral masterpiece The Hymn of Jesus.

Today's Guardian newspaper features a moving article by James Fenton, lyricist of Tsunami.

"(Composer Dominic Muldowney) wanted to write a song sequence for the powerful theatrical voice of the Australian Philip Quast ....."
