Hi Cadi

We aren't going that week but I am sure someone else will be around to meet up.

Eli ~ that is what the box office lady said cos I asked if Spencer would be doing 3rd and she said yes. I said we think he is brill and she said yes he is fun isn't he?

I agree it is weird idea to have his 1st night same as press night.

???

The extra encore is soooooooo good, be ready to get up and clap

:D :D :D

Welcome to all the visitors who are coming here to learn more about PQ

Just back from an unplanned visit to the Choc Factory :) Many thanks to the lady who returned her ticket 5 mins before curtain up because she had found out that Douglas Hodge wouldn't perform. Too bad for her, bingo for me! Besides, Spencer Stafford is such an added value to the show, luckily we will still have the chance to enjoy his performance as a "Cagelle" after Dec 26, when Hodge finally takes over.

Once again I enjoyed every second of the show, despite a slightly constipated audience (rather unusual on a Sunday). Call me simple and easily pleased, but those verbal and visual gags are irresistible for me! And although I must confess that by now I know them all, the delight of "seeing them coming" is just as strong as the surprise effect on my first evening. Allright allright, La Cage is not about Schopenhauer philosophy, but the quality of the acting is so good across the board that even the silliest gag makes you scream with laughter. It is indeed fascinating to notice all the extra details that all the cast have been adding show after show: PQ's Georges is still the wisest and most urbane of the lot, but his character's "plain homosexual" nature tends to come to the surface more often, which of course makes his character all the more hilarious in those crucial scenes. Hard to pick my favourite moments, but maybe I could single out the 'With You on My Arm' duet in Act One (Carlos Acosta, beware!) and the dinner scene in Act Two, where everybody's comic timing reaches absolute perfection.
But at the same time George's solos are so sublime, I MUST include them among my fav scenes too! :P

Lastly, how sad the "dancing with the audience" finale has been cut, I really don't grab the reason why they dropped it, it was a lovely way to end up such a feel-good show. Let's hope they will think again later in the season and put it back.

PS.: Does anyone wish to support a fund-raising initiative for a new bench in Act Two? ;)

That is such a shame that they have dropped the ENCORE part of the show :'(

We really enjoyed it and it sent us out on a real high.

I have finally loaded my curtain call photos onto my site

I love the last one taken after the encore

We always have the MEAL DEAL when we go to the Menier, it's great value at £32.50 each - which covers the price of the show and a 2-course meal. The food is really good and we've never yet been disappointed. I've only ever been in the evening so can't be sure, but I'd assume the menu is the same for pre-matinee as for a pre-evening meal.

Btw, the current menu on the Menier's site isn't the same as the one we had for CAGE. There's usually a choice of 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 puds, which currently is :

Vichyssoise, or what I'd describe as "designer" prawn cocktail :)
Beef ragout with delicious creamy mash, or a veggie nut roast thingy
And I think the desserts may have been bread & butter pud or ice cream

Your Meal Deal ticket covers you for 2 courses and they will bill you on the day if you want an additional course, sides, wine etc - and for the service charge.

One side of the Seasonal veggies btw is ample for 2 or 3 people sharing :)

Thoroughly recommended! Enjoy!

I saw it for the second time but it wasn't planned either...I went there at around 6:30, asked if they had any returns and they told me they keep a few "house seats" for members of the production team that thay would release 15 mins before the start. So I went again at 7.30 and got my seat :)
Anyway I think they were too optimistic when they decided how many seats they could get from the benches because that night it seemed there were more people than seats ;)

A couple of curtain call pictures of Georges + Albin + Cagettes...

One with ok Philip and blurry Spencer...

Yipee! I'm relieved to hear they have a new bench! That trunk they used on Sunday looked so uncomfortable and was far too short for 4 persons in the restaurant scene.
Anyhow, just to be clear: I have no merits in the purchase, unless you consider buying tickets and making good publicity for the show as a kind of "fund raising" activity! ;D
Cheers,
Eli
PS.: Now my next goal is to get the Menier to release a recording of the show!

Ooh, a recording - I'd LOVE that!

Has anyone else noticed that some of the notes that Philip holds in Look Over There (it's the first few 'there' notes) are very similar to some of his big notes in Stars? I get shivers down my spine every time I hear it now!

Hi all,
This is my first post as I am brand new to the message board although I too am another long time lurker! Had to register though as I have just been to see La Cage and have to say it was wonderful!!!
I have never been to such a small theatre before - when we arrived it was nearly full so we ended up sitting at the tables at the front and I'm sooo glad we did as it was fantastic being so close to all the action!!! Of course my favourite scenes were any that Philip was in (which was most of them luckily!!!) but I found the funniest to be the plate scene - it was really clever. There is such a lot to enjoy in this show - and everyone so professional - fantastic dancing, acting and singing by everone. We had a meal afterwards and I can say that the food was really lovely, even for a veggie like me, and I can recommend the chunky chips!!!

Hi Guys,

I went to the show tonight and there is lots of good news! Doug has started (he's not doing matiness though, Spencer is still doing them for a while) and the programmes are finally for sale.

I was trying to work out my favourite scene, I think it's got to be where Philip is showing how to walk like a masculine man, that cracks me up every time :-)

Actually I didn't get one! I had a flick through though, it's just a few pages. Not like the big magazine-like programmes that you get in the big west end theatres.

I'm going back for the matinee today, I'll see if I can pick one up. I don't have a scanner, but I have a digital camera... hmmm... I'll work something out anyway! Leave it with me..

8-)

I was reading the latest "blog reviews" on the site and it seems there are now 8 Cagelles onstage. I wonder whether this makes the tiny Menier stage a bit too crowded...

Thanks to Deejay for sending the programme shots! :)
