I was wondering if Philip has what is deemed the 'perfect actor's face' in that we see different aspects in his face when we look at it.
I think it is a brilliant picture and those eyes are gorgeous, BUT I see sad eyes!! While I see sad eyes, Eli sees melancholic and revengeful sides to his face.
What do you see???

Just been watching Harvey McHugh and in lines with waht Eli says about the new headshot it has made me think even more that think Philip would be (can I be positive here and say will be??) the perfect Sweeney. Stephen Sondheim says the audience has to feel sympathy - have empathy with Sweeney. Well the Minister does some dreadful things and is totally ruthless but don't know about you I always feel for him and Philip does such a fabulous job portarying him I ended up liking the character!!

Oh I was looking for this picture all over because some blog used it as their standard picture. How absolutely gorgeous this man is *sighs* And the hair looks really good on him, even though I prefer his curls.

Hi. I agree with you all re Philips face. He seems to be able to change his look for each character he plays. Just look at the collection of pics at the front of this site. What I find interesting is the way he can alter his body language as well, which sometimes you have to look hard to make sure it is him. He even seems to be able to change his height as well.
I did a test recently putting a collection of PQ's pics over the last 3 years on a page and asked friends if they could name the actors. Unfortunatly most could not, some names came into play and some recognised him from Evita but could not remember his name. No=one guested it was the sam actor in all of them some linked a couple of the pics. Two said the Ozzie actor with the voice!! Hat to admit no-one got his name!!!
What I can not understand his how he is not recognised for his acting in the UK. I can only think it must be linked with him not having the same contacts he would have picked up had he trained here?
By the way I wonder if he was going for Sweeny Todd at Chichester which Michael Ball has got. It is coming out next year I think after the Hairspary tour. It was put off from this year so he could do it. Shame - . Much as like Michael - I don't think he will be as good as Philip would be. I can not remember who is directing it but I think I remember it is some-one PQ has worked with in the past !
Looking at the way Mary Poppins is extending it would look as if PQ would be there for the Sydney transfer. Good as far as I am concerned as I migh well be down under next year.

I'm kind of glad to hear you say that as, when I first came across PQ, and then came here to find out more, I had enormous difficulty picking him out of the curtain call pictures etc. The only thing that didn't seem to change was his height! Certainly the headshot in the programme for La Cage looked nothing like the person I'd just seen on stage and when I came to the award ceremony photos on this site, when he wasn't in a character, that was another surprise (albeit a pleasant one).
Maybe it bears out the 'acting from the inside out' theory..he 'becomes' the character and assumes their facial look.

Good to see that PQ's Aussie agents, International Casting Service, have added Garry Lake's headshot as the new official one for PQ. http://www3.showcast.com.au/Showcast/619EBF90
